Job Description

The Minister serves the congregation by proclaiming and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, equipping believers for Christian service, and providing spiritual leadership.  Working in partnership under the oversight of the Eldership to fulfill the mission of the church in accordance with the New Testament pattern.

Accountability

The Minister serves under the spiritual oversight and direction of the Eldership and works cooperatively with the deacons, ministry leaders, office manager, and congregation.

Preaching and Teaching Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver biblically sound, Christ-centered sermons.

  • Teach Bible classes as assigned.

  • Prepare weekly articles for the church bulletin and other communication as needed.

  • Present lessons that encourage spiritual growth, unity, evangelism, discipleship, and Christian living.

  • Faithfully defend and teach sound doctrine consistent with the Scriptures and the beliefs and practices of the Church of Christ.

Spiritual Leadership

  • Lead by personal example through Christian character, integrity, and servant leadership.

  • Assist the Eldership in carrying out the congregation's vision, mission, and spiritual goals.

  • Encourage and equip members to grow in faith and become actively involved in ministries.

Congregational Care

  • Visit members, prospective members, the sick, shut-ins, hospitals, and nursing homes as practical and appropriate.

  • Provide biblical counseling, encouragement, and spiritual guidance.

  • Minister to individuals and families during times of illness, grief, crisis, or significant life events.

  • Assist in fostering a caring and spiritually supportive church family.

Evangelism and Outreach

  • Promote and participate in personal and congregational evangelism.

  • Encourage members to engage in outreach and community service.

  • Assist in welcoming, encouraging, and integrating visitors and new members into the congregation.

Administrative Leadership

  • Maintain regular communication with the Eldership regarding ministry activities, opportunities, and congregational needs.

  • Participate in staff and leadership meetings as requested.

  • Cooperate with church leadership in planning worship services, programs, and special events.

Community Representation

  • Represent the congregation in a Christ-like manner within the community.

  • Build relationships that reflect positively on Jesus Christ and His church.

  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism in all public interactions.

Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • A faithful and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • A thorough knowledge of Scripture and the ability to preach and teach effectively.

  • Agreement with the doctrine and practices of the New Testament Church.

  • Strong Christian character, moral integrity, and a servant's heart.

  • The ability to work respectfully under the leadership and oversight of the Eldership.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The Minister is expected to:

  • Live a life that reflects the teachings of Jesus Christ.

  • Maintain confidentiality in sensitive and pastoral matters.

  • Demonstrate humility, integrity, and spiritual maturity.

  • Be dependable, approachable, cooperative, and self-motivated.

  • Continue personal, spiritual, and professional development through study, prayer, and ongoing learning.

Evaluation

The Eldership will periodically evaluate the Minister's effectiveness based on:

  • Faithfulness to Scripture.

  • Effectiveness in preaching and teaching.

  • Spiritual leadership and influence.

  • Pastoral care and service to the congregation.

  • Cooperation with the Eldership and church leadership.

  • Commitment to evangelism, outreach, and congregational growth.

Employment Terms

  • Salary and benefits will be determined by the Eldership.

  • Vacation, study leave, and other employment policies will be established by the Eldership.

  • Employment is based on mutual commitment to biblical conduct, the needs of the congregation, and ongoing cooperation with the Eldership.
